Fort McMurray
Est. 1974

Established in 1974, Ni-Ten Judo Club has stood for over half a century as the heart of martial arts in Fort McMurray.
Our tatami has been a proving ground for world-class talent, producing elite athletes such as World Veterans Champion Laurie Wiltshire.
Beyond our competitive success, we are deeply rooted in the Wood Buffalo community. Through long-standing school partnerships and youth camps, we remain dedicated to shaping the character and resilience of our region’s next generation.

A Legacy of Excellence Since 1974

What does "Ni-Ten" ?
The name Ni-Ten (二天) is rooted in the philosophy of the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi’s "Niten Ichi-ryu." It symbolizes the "Two Heavens"—representing the perfect balance between contrasting forces.
At our club, Ni-Ten signifies the harmony of Mind and Body. We believe that true Judo excellence is found not only in physical strength and technique but also in the cultivation of character, discipline, and respect.
"Ni-Ten" is our commitment to developing the whole person, both on and off the mat.

Our DOJO
Our 68-square-meter dojo is optimized to accommodate two full competition areas, providing a high-standard training environment. We are fully equipped with on-site showers and changing rooms for your convenience.
To ensure everyone can start their journey immediately, we offer a wide range of complimentary Gi (uniform) rentals in all sizes. With comfortable seating and a viewing counter for guests, we strive to be a welcoming "home" where students and families alike feel at ease.

THE PRIDE of NI-TEN
Ni-Ten: In Japanese, it means "Second Heaven." Since 1974, we have remained a cornerstone of the Fort McMurray community, providing premier Judo instruction rooted in tradition and excellence.
From young children to high-level athletes, we cater to every stage of the journey. Beyond our regular classes, we offer diverse programs including corporate and educational workshops, seasonal kids’ camps, and dedicated sessions for homeschoolers.
In 2025, we entered a new era by welcoming a Head Coach with deep roots in Japanese training and international experience competing for the Scotland National Team. This expertise allows us to offer an even higher standard of instruction—one that captures the true essence of Judo.
